    In racing where bump drafting and carrier damage is a real concern, or in high HP applications where driveline shock is also a concern. Your street-driven, stock-powered Miata, not so much.

    Yours failed in the manner it was engineered.

    Yeah I know that but Im always looking for that little extra. I think the welded ones are the way to go. Drilling holes in my opinion just makes it weaker.

    Extra what? Expense?

    The bolt in one is the less risky move.

    Welding cast aluminum is a specialty repair.

    Ouchhhh.. hope you had no neck or back problems...

    [QUOTE=minuteman048;6 4780]

    Now for the bad news. Cutting the trip short because I got rear ended this afternoon. Leaving tomorrow morning with my friend Dave who incidentally rear ended me but I'm not going to blame him. Was the second car in a group of 5 when we rounded a sharp corner in the middle of nowhere. There was a wild turkey on the side of the road and the first car just got by him as he took flight. Yes wild turkeys can fly! You think turkey buzzards are big but wait til you see one of these take flight and fill your windshield. I had to hit the brakes and I just clipped him over my windshield and thought that was close when bang I got hit by Dave in his supercharged ND. His airbag went off and he pushed back his supercharger inter-cooler into his AC condenser. Luckily they did not pierce any lines and he was able to continue back to the hotel. I followed him back and looks like his car will be able to travel. Will follow him home to St. Augustine to ensure he gets back OK. Had turkey feathers in the car! Attached are the pictures.

    My $.02:

    If it'd broken from abuse I'd vote for the welded option. Since it's held up to regular abuse and only broke as a result of a collision, I'd just leave it be. It's a known breaking point upon contacting something, but not an issue with normal driving.

    Was running it pretty hard trying to outrun you. Got a good picture of us on the Dragon. Will post when I get it.

    Buy an open diff on fb market place for $150 and swap over the diff housing. Your torsen is fine.

    Like I told you before, our drivers break those diff housings at Daytona like its their job. It is literally a 45 min track side repair. Mazda made it easy for us. You have a full exhaust to remove, so add 15 mins for that.

    In the end, its your car and your money. Spend it how you wish.
