Have not seen a redline like that since I had my Honda 900 Custom motorcycle. Awesome!

A couple weeks ago I bought a helmholtz resonator. After trying for a week to find someone to weld it on, everyone either wanted +$300 or was a total flake. I finally gave up and bought a $100 welder to do it myself. Looks terrible but it's on there.

It definitely helped quiet the drone somewhat, but I was a little disappointed it didn't do more. Ideally I'd probably do a little more to quiet it, but I'm content with it and it'll do for now.

You'll get better. Back in the 80's I took a welding course at the community college. For me it was cheap and money well spent.

Re: It's really just a big miata

I had a similar welder in Florida for a couple years. I improved with it significantly at first, then just seemed to level off. I'm sure someone that knows what they're doing could do better, but I don't think a welder this cheap will ever make a really clean, pretty weld. It doesn't bother me though, as long as I keep the wheels on the ground nobody's going to see it. If anyone ever does see it, I've got bigger issues than an ugly weld, haha.

On my recent Dragon run (Video - https://gearheadsmiataclub.net/vB/sh...3831#post63831 ) if you listen closely right at the end of the video you can hear, "Woahhh, No brakes!" The brakes overheated and faded pretty bad. I knew the rotors didn't look great, but that was enough to decide it was time for an upgrade. I bought some stoptech sport pads and plain old blank rotors, along with new fluid. I figured that should be sufficient for my needs. I'm hoping to get them swapped out this weekend.

Re: It's really just a big miata

I think a lot of learning to weld comes down to knowing the settings on the welder

at the shop, we bought a new fancy digital welder and the guys do not like it. Finally fed up, we turned off the auto feature and started playing with settings until they liked the welds.

I was even able to lay down a decent bead......

looking at your weld, it didn't get enough heat into the metal, so maybe it needed something turned up? Not sure if it needed more volts or amps though. Hence playing with the settings. They type of wire makes an impact as well. In the end, they settled on lower volts and more amps.

With that being said, my welds usually look as good as yours.
