    Vote for scott!

I'm trying to get people to write me in for Florida CFO. If you're otherwise undecided, please consider writing in "Scott Poindexter". I wasn't sure who to vote for so I decided to test the system and see if the write-ins will actually show up in the results. I've had quite a few people pledge their support, I'm hoping to hit 20 votes!

I know we've got a "no politics" rule, hopefully this doesn't cross the line. It's not meant to be political or controversial at all. If you're undecided or would otherwise leave it blank, I'd appreciate a vote. If not, you're welcomed to place an educated vote for one of the real candidates.

Haha. Well, I already voted last month, otherwise I’d have voted for you.

The “no politics” rule is to avoid the usual political nastiness, arguments and name calling that those threads usually devolve into. They’re great for corporate forum owners like Internet Brands because it creates massive thread and post counts they can show advertisers but IMO, it really does the membership a disservice with ill feelings and cliques.

Today is a very important, national voting day, so I don’t see it being a problem with our small group that personally know each other to talk about general, local voting or ballot issues.

Guess I should have posted sooner. I had this idea a few weeks ago when I was filling out my absentee ballot. I'm really hoping I can find someplace with full results that I actually show up on, but I kind of doubt it will happen.

    Re: Vote for scott!

The trouble with voting early is the lack of clarity on issues. You think you’re voting the right way then find out the wording was deceptive and you voted against your interest.

Oh, and you don’t get the cool “I voted” sticker.

Also, these combined propositions like off shore oil drilling paired up with vaping indoors...wth??

As for 13, I really don’t see any upside to Greyhound racing. These dogs are used for human gambling then offloaded to shelters that are already straining to make ends meet. Add to that, Greyhounds are often injured or loaded up with cocaine that it just makes the whole thing distasteful.

Now I’m reading that this prop isn’t what it seems and that there would still be dog racing. Then there’s Prop 3 regarding gambling. It sounds good for the people to have the final vote on that but it seems like the opposite would happen because Disney and the Seminole Indian Casino would benefit the most, not the voters.

It’s like the whole ballot is one big gotcha! I propose a new initiative that would require absolute truth in ballot wording along full disclosure about who spent money on what and who ultimately benefits.

I'm with you on the "not knowing what you're voting for" thing. I don't understand how the amendments can be written so diceptively. I tried to research the amendments to get an idea what the true affect would be. Sometimes the biggest tell for me is looking at what groups are supporting a given cause and consider why they are backing it.

I will absolutly vote no on any bs combined amendments. I felt like the offshore drilling and indoor vaping thing was a big joke or something.

There were a lot of “Should Judge So-And-So be retained?” questions.

I don’t know. Who is that? If I vote no, are they kicked out of their job? If so, who would fill the position? Do we vote that dude in later or what?

The only way the voting public has of removing a sitting Judge is by this vote. A Judge has to act, pass judgements that are preferential or influenced by bribery, behave in a manor that violates moral standards, commits crimes. The public becomes aware via the media and votes to remove him from the bench. Judges are appointed by the state and are subject to approval by the voters.

I agree. It’s so blatant, it doesn’t even pass the smell test. In my opinion, it’s purposefully set up to fail because if things don’t go a certain way, it will be taken up by the Florida Supreme Court which would probably nullify the vote because two disparate issues were combined into one making everything an exercise in futility or fraud.

The same thing happened in Washington many years ago when a tax reduction initiative was bundled with some obscure, unrelated initiative. Of course everyone voted for tax reduction but since it was bundled with some goofy, unrelated thing, the WA Supreme Court nullified the whole thing, concluding that two, unrelated initiatives couldn’t reasonably combined into one. I think half these Florida initiatives would fail in court no matter how we vote and people who worded the ballot knew it.
