Charlotte County govt. - tree removal question

I have a Brazilian pepper tree right on the edge of my property between the lawn and the canal. Since it grows like a weed, it is now blocking half my yard along the water and it also growing toward my house, already pushing a palm tree toward my roof.

I know the county claims several feet of the front and back of my property for “easement” in order to maintain drainage and other interests, no problem. Once in a while, they send crews down my street to trim back trees that are hovering over power lines or the street.

I just want to know, would the county also be responsible for this out of control pepper tree in the back that is impeding on my house?

I don’t have the strength, tools or money to cut it down and since it is technically on the county easement section of my yard, can I get any kind of help from the county? I don’t even need the whole tree removed but if would ne happy if it could be significantly trimmed.

Sorry to say they won't. I have the same problem behind me with the RR. I found out a couple of years ago I am extremely allergic to those things. I would suggest spraying and killing it. I got some stuff from the old feed store in Punta Gorda that is ls pretty strong. I can check the name for you when I get home.

Well, this big crew showed up today with trucks, earth movers and barge-like boats with cranes. They went up and down the canal removing trees impeding the waterway. I walked over and asked about mine and apparently, I’m too late to be on the list.

I didn’t even know there was a list!

I’ve been here 10 years and have never seen the county do this so it’ll probably be another decade or longer before I see them again. These Brazilian Pepper trees are a scourge! They grow overnight and when you cut one sprout down, another five sprout up around it. Oh, and they’re hurricane-proof too. Dammit!
