I am glad to hear that the procedure was a success!

I am also glad that at least my trailer was able to help out!

The White Knight rides again! Great job guys! I like seeing these ol' gals repaired and back on the road instead of being parted out. I am always a little sad when I see what looks like a perfectly good/repairable car being cannibalized because they can make a few extra dollars.

Great fix for this issue. Congrats. White Knight owes you BIG time. I think he should cut your lawn this summer.

Very glad to hear about the successful repair! That really impacts a lot of people who would consider just scrapping the engine (or car). Great photos too!

Thought you were going to drop by. You missed some good Publix subs.

I would have loved to and Publix sandwiches are the best but simply no senior sitters available this weekend.

Re: Really bad news for White Knight. Engine shot.

It is my theory that water leaked behind the timing belt cog and rust formed around the key, as you can see in the photos of the cog and the key the break was at a ¼ inch from the back side of the cog that allowed the pulley that bolts onto the flange to rock and pull away.
I think this is evidential proof that any form of metal adhesive or epoxy to repair a broken key will not work because it will not standing the forces against repaired broken key short of it being welded into the groove and the amount of work to file and shape it. A little water rusted the key and the cog at the point of the break.

I am always happy to be of help but more important to me is the company of good friends share their knowledge and skills for a fellow/gal Miata owner.
