    Pdexta's new '00 Mahogany Mica!

Just got home with the new ride, a 00SE! It's higher mileage (159k) but it's in great shape. Paint looks good for the age/mileage, the interior is in great shape, AC blows super cold. Really excited about it.

First shot of the car at the gas station:

    On the way home:

    And... that didn't take long

My radar picked the cop up for a few miles before he pulled me over so I was doing the speed limit. He pulled me over for speeding and no tag (since I was driving it home and hadn't registered it yet). He said I was doing 65 in a 50, I knew I was doing 65 but I swear I passed a ton of 65 limit signs. Anyway he let me off, amazing, I've got like 12 tickets and that's the first time I've ever been let go. Guess he felt bad writing a ticket to a guy in a car he'd had for 30 minutes. Yay!

Hey, first day with the car is lucky. Hope it just keeps on coming. Good looking car.

What color is that? If it is what I think it is, I always really liked that color. Please tell me you are not going to strip this one. I'll have to rescue it. Like that color interior also.

Nice silver one in the back ground. I gave up on radar detrctors in the 80's. Relying on observation skills, instinct, where I am and time of day I have not been pulled over for a speeding ticket since.

is that the black cherry mica?

Thanks guys excited to start playing with it already. The shifter bushing is broken (like 99% of used miatas) so the shifter is all floppy. It always amazes me that everyone such a obvious problem with such a cheap, simple, quick fix. I'm planning to swap the one on from my other car, hopefully this evening.

Color is Mahogany Mica, it's a 00SE special color. I'm modeling this car after my 10AE. Motor from tarbaby, turbo, AC, maybe some sound deadening. The only thing I'll consider removing is PS (because I like manual steering), the window sprayer bottle (because they suck and just smear the bugs), and the sunvisors (because it's stupid that you have to put them down to lower the top). I'll start a build thread as soon as the wife names the car.

We've debated your spidey senses vs my radar detector before. Like I said, my radar detector picked the guy up a good 4-5 miles before I got to the cop. I was going 65 in a 65 because it was going off, apparently as I was entering Labelle there must have been a 50mph sign that I somehow missed. The detector did its job, either the cop was mistaken or I just totally botched it. Either way the cop was cool and let me off so all's well that ends well.

Re: Pdexta's new '00 Mahogany Mica!

Well congrats man!! That is a beautiful color combo. One of our guys up north had one and I remember that color in the sun is amazing and the interior is not tan but a lighter parchment color if that makes any sense. I didn't like the stock NB sun visors either so I installed the bi-fold NA visors.

What a way to christen your new ride than with a good, old-fashioned speed stop, haha. Actually around the same time, I was cruising in my orange car down 41 and all these Yankees were going slower than the posted speed and leaving no room to get around them. Finally, I caught a break and gave it a three-second blast and weave to get clear but didn't see the cop car on the island.

I look in the rear view and sure enough blue and red lights come on and he does a U to get on the road. I see him coming toward me, lights flashing and I'm thinking, F'ing great! My first speeding ticket in two decades! I'm already slowing down to pull over when all of a sudden, he turns right and hauls ass down another road.

BTW, do I see TWO radar detectors in your photo? And you still got off?

I see someone has already done the LED dome light mod.

Re: Pdexta's new '00 Mahogany Mica!

Haha, yeah there are 2 radar detecors. My Escort 9500 and a cheapo cobra or something that was hardwired into the car. I figured I'd run both on the way home to see how the one I inherited with the car performed. The Escort was good for a few miles, the other one never made a peep. Will be de-wiring it and relocating to the trash can later unless anyone wants it.

Mechanically the car is 100% stock, but I'm finding a few little m.net style mods. The guy I bought it from was awesome, mid-70's and "too old to get in it anymore". He said all he did was maintenance stuff any mods were from the owner prior to him. I love seeing little stuff like the LED dome light, hardwired detector, and it's got a parking curb distance indicator thing so you won't scrape the lip. It's all little stuff but it's definitely been enthusiast owned and makes me think it's been well cared for.

Congrats on getting away as well! I've had a pretty decent run lately. I'm usually good for at least a ticket per year but I've been clean a little over 2 years now I think. When he pulled me over I was expecting a decent pile of tickets and scared I'd be spending the night in Labelle. It's a little nerve wracking driving an unregistered car with no tag, but supposedly that's the best option for getting a private owner purchased car home.

Re: Pdexta's new '00 Mahogany Mica!

About a year and a half ago, while going to auto-x I got pulled over in the same spot. State Trooper gave me no break. 65 in a 50. There is a stretch of 50 mph about 2/10 of a mile long right there. Prick of a cop wouldn't even drop me to 64 to make it a much lower ticket. That's when I used Gold's Ticket Attorneys to make it go away.

The 00SE is a nice combination of colors. The only "issue" I would have against it is that getting a new soft top or upholstery is real hard because of the parchment. Yours looks nice so that's not going to be a problem with you.

I see the wife's naming the car. Did she come up with Tar Baby? What do you think your timeline might be to transform this old man's car into an ethanol breathing monster, and are you going to turn down the boost, like you were talking about?

I think he should start off with some COPS like MM's before the coil packs start failing, a known problem with NB1s.
